The K'ai Men Gallery
An open door for an open mind
Joan Lymn

Joan was born in Bath Somerset. She then moved to Middlesex, then as a teenager on to Hampshire. She now lives with her husband in Lovedean.
Always enjoying painting as a child, she rekindled her interest in painting some twelve years ago. After a yearÕs foundation course in Art & Design at Portsmouth College of Art she received tuition from several national and international artists, also residential courses both here and abroad, notably a month spent in Italy at the Florence Academy of Art.

Watercolour was her first love, and then expanding to mixed media, which she says is exciting, as the results are never predictable. Joan uses collage, inks, oil pastels and different papers to create images from life sketches, or photographs, which she has taken. Photography plays an important part in her work. Her inspiration comes from a wide variety of subjects. Joan is now experimenting with oils, a media she is now finding rewarding to work with.
Joan had a solo exhibition at the Portsmouth Art Centre and has also exhibited at the Easebourne Gallery, the Dragon Street Gallery- Petersfield and the Oxmarket Centre of Arts Š Chichester. She is also a member of three local art societies where she exhibits and has won several awards including the Flora Twort award for watercolour and the Josephine Majella award for mixed media.
