An open door for an open mind |
Joan Honour Smith |
I was born in London and studied fine art for seven years at Camberwell
College of art being awarded a place at twelve years of age. Needing
to earn a living, I became an illustrator. I worked in Fleet Street
for several years, and in the 1960's my sister who also was a trained
artist and I started our own graphic design studio. Shearing the work
with other artist this meant I had more time for my family. In the
1970 after appearing on television demonstrating airbrush techniques
I began a new career in lecturing, at one time I was teaching at nine
different Art colleges across the country. At this time I became a
Consultant to the Royal College of Art where I tutored for twenty-three
years. |

Most illustrators are frustrated painters and I was no exception to
the rule, even though I continued painting through out my commercial
career, it has not been until now that I have been able to concentrate
on my painting.
